Since 1964, Wittelsbach was in a private collection, and on December 10, 2008, it was sold at Christie's auction for a record amount of £16.4 million sterling, or US$23.4 million. The buyer was Lawrence Graff, a British jeweler.

#8 The Cullinan
Cullinan Diamond is the largest gem-quality natural diamond ever found on our planet. Extracted from a mine in South Africa on January 25, 1905, this crystal weighed 3,106.75 carat (621.35 grams). The stone was named after the owner of the mine, Sir Thomas Major Cullinan. The diamond was exceptionally clean and of white-blue in color. When cutting, it was split into 9 large parts and about 100 small fragments. As a result, nine large diamonds were obtained, named from Cullinan I to Cullinan IX, as well as 96 small diamonds. All Cullinan diamonds are now a property of the English Crown.
